Gotta say I'm surprised at the replies to this. Personally I find it exceptional hard to spin up a non-https server (though I can do a static site with a few hacks in less time). — rem/1364339623867146243

We, the supporters of the Open Web, are strongly against "use IE to browse this site", or "use your desktop" or "you must have JavaScript" or "you need a faster connection", or "you must use the mouse" and yet https really is a barrier to access, even if it's *some* people.

I don't have an answer, and I'm certainly not advocating that https is bad or wrong. I do think a good few years ago we just decided to ignore the problem and play the White Knight whilst shooing this under the carpet. Myself included.
